Public Schools
Marietta City Schools offer rich educational opportunities for students of all ages. The school system is ranked among the top 16% in the country, while Marietta High School ranks in the nation’s top 5%.
The system’s school structure is unique and designed to promote student success, with kindergartners – fifth graders served in seven elementary schools and one magnet school, sixth graders served in a special academy to help ease the transition from elementary to middle school; seventh and eighth graders served at Marietta Middle School and ninth – twelfth graders served at Marietta High School.
The district has a firm commitment to academics, offering a variety of challenging programs for avid learners:
Elementary Level: Marietta City Schools offers innovative learning experiences in its K-5 elementary grades that include an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program, a Talented and Gifted learning model, Communications & Language, Leadership, and a new Arts-focused elementary offering, among others. The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics school for third – fifth graders is a magnet school that focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Sixth Grade Academy and Middle School: The STEM technology-focused magnet program can be continued in grades six – eight. Additionally, the academically advanced International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program becomes an option in sixth grade.
High School: Marietta’s academically gifted high schoolers can participate in the rigorous International Baccalaureate Program.
Marietta Charter School
Marietta Charter School is a tuition-free charter school for kindergartners through fifth graders that opened in 2006. The school focuses on Everyday Math, Guided Reading and AIMS (Activities Integrating Math and Science) curricula and also offers art, Spanish and physical education. Students who are eligible to attend Marietta City Schools are eligible to enroll in Marietta Charter School.
Teaching Staff
About two-thirds of Marietta City School’s dedicated teachers have a master’s degree or higher, and the 2008 Georgia Teacher of the Year, Emily Jennette, is a second grade teacher at the system’s Sawyer Road Elementary School.
The close-knit Marietta City Schools community has enticed many system alumni to come back to teach.
